True stories of human quirks, surprising coincidences, and the absurdities of everyday life—at work and at home.

Some encounters are almost impossible to invent. In this series, I tell stories about people, situations, and contradictions I have come across at different stages of my life: in the German Army, as a mayor, and beyond. It is not always clear who ends up holding a mirror up to whom—and sometimes I am the one who doesn’t come off particularly well.

These stories are based on real experiences, but told with a wry smile. Where it serves the story, I may sharpen a detail or two. I believe it is possible to laugh at people while still respecting them.
